TalkTrue Group Coaching for Managers and leaders

Group coaching & learning (GCL) – what is it?

More than ever before, the Covid and post-Covid worlds demand that we are all able to work collaboratively in groups, as a given. Having the skills and experience to do so is a vitally important aptitude. It needs developing and practicing like any skill.

My GCL brings together up to 8 managers in a group to collectively face and address hard challenges, by applying the power of their concerted problem analysis, exploration, discovery and resolution. It is the interaction and cohesion between the group participants that enhances the learning experience and bolsters participant confidence.

GCL unlocks the collective wisdom within the group, (Thornton, 2010), to augment learning and build self-efficacy through honest exchange, group cohesion and trust-building.  People learn from verbalising their own experiences and from listening to those of others. GCL helps people better connect to others, build trusting relationships and feel a greater connection to their organisation. People have been found to build greater social intelligence (Goleman, 2006) from working effectively in groups (Thornton, 2010).

In my GLC sessions, learners set common learning objectives. Within this, they are also encouraged to set individual learning goals which are also integral to overall group learning. It is important that the intervention is designed to fit the organisational context.

Group cohesion and subsequent learning take place over a series of sessions, over time; one session is not enough. Six sessions is a good maxim to enable learning to start to embed.

GLC will support managers to be able to achieve the necessary changes they have to make to help their teams perform, whilst upholding good levels of trust and engagement with their people throughout. We will be using a Strengths-based approach as it has been shown to increase hope, make people feel more energized and increase their ability to generate solutions. Research in the workplace shows that focusing on employees’ strengths can lead to increased employee engagement, productivity and optimism

Our Character Strengths are the positive parts of our personality that influence how we think, feel and behave. The ‘Values in Action Inventory’ – or ‘VIA’ – Scientists have identified 24 character strengths which reflect the “real” you—who you are at your core. These strengths are the key to you being your authentic best self – at work and at home.
